A "Lyonnais" parcel giltwood large rectangular mirror frame with beaded detail in the French antique style. Watergilt in 22 carat gold leaf with red bole and gesso, this frame is quite antiqued with the gesso sections on the frame contrasting with the gold leaf areas. This is called parcel gilt and was a decorative technique used a lot in 19th Century France. It has a rustic effect which is often described as provincial.
